There is overwhelming evidence of a shortage of teachers and other professionals who have the knowledge and skills to serve the needs of children and youth with autism spectrum disorders (Myles & Simpson, 2001; U.S. Senate, 2002). Increase Inclusive Classroom Success

One of the keys to successful inclusion is to equip teachers with the tools to make educated and research-based decisions about a child’s placement and educational plan. Unfortunately, many educators have little to no training in evidenced-based interventions, and are therefore unequipped to apply these methods to teach new skills and reduce problem behaviors (Granpeesheh, D., et al. 2009).

Although 80% of children with autism attend typical classrooms for part of the day (U.S. Department of Education, 2006), general education teachers receive very little evidence-based autism training to teach these children. By training general education teachers through video, they begin to understand students on the spectrum and build confidence in applying child-specific interventions.

Combat High Turnover

Employee turnover is an inevitable burden for the special education field. ATS combats high turnover in two ways:

• On-Demand–Training–When turnover does occur, schools utilizing ATS can provide on‐demand classroom training to quickly train replacements. No longer do you have to wait for a scheduled classroom lecture or workshop before allowing new hires to hit the field.
• Free Replacement Training If an employee quits or is terminated before their training is complete, the seat will be reset and transferred to a new user free of charge.

Automate Staff Monitoring and Assessments

Managing teacher and paraprofessional training is easier with ATS. We record fluency, pre and post-test scores, assess strengths and weaknesses, and provide certificates of completion.

Standardize Training Across Schools

Virtual training allows organizations to train and manage staff in multiple locations while decreasing training and travel costs. Based on traditional industry workshop, substitute teacher and travel costs, public schools can save between $50 and $1,200 per teacher when training with ATS. More importantly, teachers have access to trainings for one full year. Learning doesn’t stop after the workshop ends.

With limited time and resources, a solution is needed to provide training to school staff now. Districts may only have a specialist or two to oversee many schools and students. Computer based training has been shown to produce similar knowledge outcomes across a variety of settings including teaching principles of ABA to newly hired staff (Granpeesheh, Tarbox, Dixon, Peters, Thompson, & Kenzer, 2009). Computer based training, or eLearning, has the potential to solve many of the problems facing educators and administrators in autism treatment.
